How it works

Same threats. The only thing that changes is the plan.

A high-value vessel must transit a contested strait while waves of hostile drones converge on it. You don't fly the defenders — you write the tactic that commands them. Below, two tactics face the identical attack from the identical seed. Watch the scores pull apart.

Identical seed, identical threats — only the C2 logic differs. That difference is the whole game.

Deterministic

A fixed seed means every tactic faces the exact same fight. Same plan, same score — so the board is fair.

Pluggable

A tactic is a single function: read the battlespace, return orders. Swap it and the outcome changes.

Open

Not-for-profit, runs entirely in your browser and free to fork. No accounts, no server doing the thinking.

What this is

A serious toy.

Thursday War is an open benchmark for autonomous command-and-control. It started as a holiday experiment — one person, a browser, no budget — and it grows every Thursday: new scenarios, smarter threats, fog of war, communications limits and the genuinely hard command decisions that follow.

The point isn't the game. The point is what becomes possible when you can write a tactic, watch it fight and rank it fairly — at no cost, in the open. Imagine it done properly.
